This is a powerful image depicting the crucifixion of Christ. We can see his face and raised arms at the centre of the image, his eyes closed and his moustache and beard highlighted.
On looking closer, however, the brow bone and nose become the cross and the left side of his face becomes the figure of Christ hanging from the cross. His moustache and beard are actually the figure?s legs. The scars and shadows across the portrait?s face and body become the crosses on the hillside and a lone, shrouded figure at the bottom of the hill is looking up.
