This pool illusion is effective and strange. The man climbing down the ladder looks as if he is climbing down to the second platform, which is in the foreground. Our brains find it difficult to understand how one platform is higher than the other.
In fact they are the same height. Perspective is achieved through the ladder as well as the black tile lines of the pool. The man is actually standing on the platform in the foreground and the ladder is not actually there. There are many pool images by different artists today, as water makes a great illusion.
