How many colours can you detect in this image? There are actually only 3 colours here, not 4 or 5. Your brain might tell you that there are more than 3. This is because when the green and pink colours are placed side by side, they enhance each other?s darker tones, making them look like completely new colours. The white squares, on the other hand, surround the same colours with light and make them look naturally paler.
How we perceive colours is dependant on the light and shadow surrounding them and on the placing of contrasting colours side by side.
